How To Use This Free E-Book about Free E-Books:

You are welcome to offer this Free E-Book as a Free gift from your website. Here are some suggestions for using this Free E-Book:

Get more subscribers to your Newsletter, if you have one, by offering it as a Free gift to new subscribers.
Increase your sales by offering it as a Free gift with every purchase of your product.
Encourage visitors to fill out your online surveys by offering it as a Free gift.
Offer it as a prize in your Website/Ezine contests, if you have them.

Give away E-Books:

Free E-Books are growing in popularity on the Internet for good reason.

Here are just a few things you can do with a Free E-Book:

Give it away from your site.
Convince other Web sites and ezines to give it away.
Offer it as a Freebie for new ezine subscribers, if you have an ezine.
Give it away to your current subscribers as a token of your appreciation.
Give your E-Book an attention-getting title and fill it with lively information that focuses on your specialized area. By encouraging your fans to share your Free E-Book with others, your brand identity may spread faster than a chain letter.

I've tried to make this Free E-Book as easy as possible to use. Here are some tips about how to use this Free E-Book.

Screen Size:

In order to read this Free E-Book in it's correct format, you should maximize the Free E-Book screen. If you don’t know how, go to the “Help“ section.

Fonts:

At the top of your screen, you'll see a tab (probably called 'View' or ‘Format‘). Click on that and you'll get a drop-down Menu. On that Menu, you'll find a tab that says 'Fonts.' If you click on that, you'll see some options for font size. Just click on the font size that you find easiest to read. You may have to highlight the entire E-Book first (edit/all should do it). Some screens have a font size adjustment elsewhere at the top of the screen, where you can adjust the font to ‘Larger,’ ‘Largest,’ and so forth.

Links:

Throughout this Free E-Book, I've used hyperlinks that go directly to websites or that open up an E-Mail message in your E-Mail client. You will need to be connected to the Internet for these hyperlinks to work.

But first, here’s a Free E-Book I’ve put together about
FRAUDS AND COMPUTER PROBLEMS

This is a 6 Chapter “Freebie” that may have some handy information you can use later on. We suggest you download this information (highlight it all, then edit/copy into your favorite word processor or text program) and print it out for future reference. Here are the Chapter Titles:

Chapter 1. Computer problems - Freeware
Chapter 2. Typical Frauds
Chapter 3. NEW SCAM -- BEWARE
Chapter 4. Search Engine frustrations
Chapter 5. Guidelines to help protect you from fraud when online
Chapter 6. Fraud Alert!

It is at http://silverdollar-report.blogspot.com/ and has a lot of information in it! You are Free to give it away, too, or tell your customers, friends, and relatives where they can download it (there is no www in this one, and it won’t work if you try to put one in it).

===============================================

As a Book Publishing Company, we get a lot of inquiries from new authors and new illustrators who send us E-Mails and regular Snail Mail asking if we would like to look at some of their work. Yes, of course, we are always looking for new material, and we will be happy to work with you to get your material published, provided you meet our guidelines.

All this is outlined in our “Handbook for New Authors and Illustrators,” which is available for Free. Just contact us at silvdolpr@yahoo.com and we will tell you how you can download this information the same way as suggested above, for future reference. Tell us a little about your Book and/or illustrations - what your Book is about, how many pages does it contain, and so forth. Please don’t send E-Mails to this box asking for other items that are listed in this Free E-Book where we list a link, unless the link isn’t working.

===============================================

We list some websites in this Free E-Book, which were working as of the date of publication of this Free E-Book. However, as you probably know, some of these websites will “go offline” and perhaps out of business entirely at some point in the future, so we cannot guarantee that all links are working. If you find one or more links that do not work, please let us know. Some websites are listed more than once because they fit into more than one category.

Some libraries offer Free E-Books for viewers, whether you live in that city/town or not. New York Public Library Free E-Book Collection is available to anyone who registers. If you run a search for “Free E-Book Libraries” in one or more of the major search engines, you will get an updated list.

===============================================

The Public Domain:

The public domain is where all written words that fall out of copyright, or are not restricted by copyright, end up. It means that the texts are free to distribute. Universities and non-profit organizations have capitalized on this and the growth of the Internet to create archives of texts that are free to download.

Some of these archive sites let you read the text on-line, either as: a text file that you can copy and store in MS-Word, or your favorite word processing or text program; or as a PDF file using the free Adobe Acrobat E-Book Reader; or as HTML files that open up in your Internet Browser.

Some organizations have decided to offer their resources for free over the Internet including many encyclopedia, poetry, fiction, and non-fiction collections. You generally read these texts in the window of your Internet Browser (HTML files), and copy them to store them on your computer as an MS-Word file - to download this information, highlight it all, then edit/copy into your favorite word processor or text program, and print it out for future reference.

Private companies offer free texts on-line, often to advertise their products. Many of these are text files and some are PDF files to be read in the free Adobe Acrobat E-Book Reader. While these documents are usually copyrighted, they are distributed freely for marketing purposes.

The Adobe Acrobat E-Book Reader has become an Internet standard. It is also the first choice for publishers when issuing E-Book versions of their printed Books.

Note: A few of the sites listed below require you to register and then log-on. You probably won’t receive any junk mail as a result. You’ll probably not catch a virus from any of them. Always remember to have an anti-virus program installed on your computer, as a precaution.

The Archives:

There are many more archives where these came from - here is a taste of the offerings over the Internet. Many of these sites are award winners and the top on the Internet for distribution of free text files.

Sometimes the text is to read on-line, which you can then copy and store as an MS-Word file on your computer, or your favorite word processor or text program. To download this information, highlight it all, then edit/copy into your favorite word processor or text program, and print it out for future reference. Other times they let you download the text file directly. Some offer not just text files, but E-Books for free and for sale, in various formats.

Right now you can download thousands of public domain classics for free via Blackmask, Project Gutenberg, GutenTalk, manybooks.net, MemoWare, and others. Some are listed in this Free E-Book. For others, just run a search for each of these in one of the major search engines.

In addition to obtaining E-Books from the above sources, if you decide to write your own E-Book, whether it is Free or not, you can submit your E-Book to the above directories. You will need to decide on a topic, as well as which format to use in your E-Book. Here are some basic formatting tips - your E-Book should contain:

(i) an Index page that serves as the entry point to your E-Book. It should contain a Welcome message, your copyright statement, and a link to the 'Contents' page of your E-Book.

(ii) A 'Contents' page. This should be a list of all the chapters in your E-Book, with Section titles for each chapter. The Chapter titles should be hyper-linked to the first page in that chapter, and the Section titles should be hyperlinked to the first page in that section.

(iii) A link at the top of each page of your E-Book that says 'Contents' and which takes the reader back to the 'Contents' page.

(iv) The Chapter title at the top of each page, so that the reader knows which Chapter they are reading.

(v) A set of links at the top of each page that allow the reader to jump back and forth between the different sections of the Chapter.

(vi) Forward and Backward arrows (hyperlinked) at the bottom right of each page which take the reader back one page or forward one page.

If you decide to write a Free E-Book (or you may want to write one where you charge $$$ for it) you can submit your Free E-Book to the growing number of Free E-Book directories on the internet (some of them may even list your E-Book if you do charge for it). Here are a few to get you started:

Review of above Sewing Machine Repair Book from FWFanatics, http://www.quilt.com/FWFanatics/ Archives/Feb11toFeb1796.html
Date: Mon, 12 Feb 1996 20:59:21 -0500 Subject: FWFanatics

I … have gotten a really cool book by Arthur W. Smith called HOW TO ADJUST AND REPAIR YOUR SEWING MACHINE. 1984 copyright. Published by Silver Dollar Press … Arkansas. Explanations are well done for the novice and with lots of illustrations. A chapter for just Singer machines. Also many pages shows parts to machines and part numbers. I bought 2 odd bobbins this weekend and looked them up in this book to find part number and what machine used them. (Anybody looking for a White Rotary #863 or a Singer #15277?) I do not know if the book is still in print or available from publisher - but I think I will try I like it so much. (It has been available since 1984 on a continuous basis, and it is still available today with a 2000 Copyright on it - ISBN 0-9615146-2-0 “How To Adjust and Repair Your Sewing Machine”).

Note: This Book has been updated and now contains a 2005 Copyright. We plan to put it into E-Book form soon, and to translate it into Spanish. Both these projects take a LOT of time, so keep checking back with us. Thanks!

This “Free E-Book About Free E-Books” is also available in Adobe .PDF format as well as other formats, but you will have to pay the Postage and cost of a CD to put it on. If you want it in a different format, please contact us at silvdolpr@yahoo.com and tell us what you need, and we will give you an idea of how much it will cost and how you can pay it. Please don’t send E-Mails to this box asking for other items that are listed in this Free E-Book where we list a link, unless the link isn’t working.

===============================================

===============================================

Digital Libraries:

http://www.libraryjournal.com/community /151/Digital+Libraries/3760

Free-Fiction.com is an initiative that is based on the premise that in the future, all E-Books will be free, just like open source radio and television programs. And just like commercial radio and TV, these E-Books have advertising throughout the E-Book text. Because the Books are all free and made as stand-alone EXE E-Books, you can view them on their site before downloading them:

A Good Read is a varied site, but this link is to their fiction E-Books selection. They also have a large non-fiction selection that you can reach by clicking on the link at the bottom of their page:

Some E-book Directories to Start You Off . These seem to be the top all-purpose Free e-book directories as of this writing:

===============================================

Blackmask Online - Large collection of free books - mostly converted from Project Gutenberg texts, but Blackmask offers downloads in multiple formats. Blackmask Online describes itself as in Internet provider of literature. Though specialized in mystery Books, they offer other topics too, in just about any format you can imagine, including zipped text files:

Thanks!
